The main goal of WP4 is to develop models to inform about mooring networks and foundation requirements that will allow reducing uncertainties associated with the performance, reliability, and environmental impact of permanent mooring and anchorage systems for MEC arrays.

 

The research outputs will provide WP 7 with the necessary underpinning knowledge and functions, allowing the generation of a mooring and foundation tool box to inform the whole system lifecycle performance algorithm. All functions that will be generated within this WP will be quality checked against its performance characteristics prior passing it to WP7.

The specific objectivesof this WP are to:

  • Develop suitable methodologies for design and assessment of mooring networks and foundation for MRE farms;
  • Assess and enhance (or develop) suitable design tools specifically for array mooring and foundation requirements in MRE arrays;
  • Develop suitable methodologies for design and assessment of mechanical and structural requirements of mooring and foundations in MRE farms;
  • Develop assessment criteria for moorings and foundations providing an appropriate reliability appraisal;
  • Develop assessment criteria for moorings and foundations providing an appropriate economical appraisal;
  • Develop assessment criteria for moorings and foundations providing an appropriate environmental appraisal;
  • Generate database for array mooring and foundation components.

 

EXPECTED DELIVERABLES

  1. A comprehensive assessment of the applicability of available and proposed offshore mooring and foundation technologies and design tools for array applications
  2. Report on specific requirements for MRE foundation analysis
  3. Report on suitability of assessment functions to validate novel mooring and foundation component designs
  4. Assessment and importance of higher frequency excitation loads towards moored MRE devices in array configurations
  5. Function improvement and/or development for array foundations, design assessment of traditional or novel components, and integration non-linear characteristics into existing mooring design tools
  6. Framework for the prediction of the reliability, economic and environmental criteria and assessment methodologies for Moorings and Foundations
  7. Database for Mooring and Foundation
