OpenHydro turbine heads to Paimpol-Bréhat

The first of two DCNS-built OpenHydro tidal turbines heads to array test site in France.

After several weeks of waiting docked in the commercial port of Brest, the Triskell barge carrying the OpenHydro tidal turbine headed to the Paimpol-Bréhat test site this past Friday night. The tug RMT Penfret from Rouen was enlisted for the occasion and is ensuring the transit of the convoy.

The barge, which was loaded and ready since last December, will now benefit from better weather conditions and low tidal coefficients. These improved conditions should help in the positioning of the machine by DCNS with as much precision as possible when placing the turbine and its foundation on the sea floor at a depth of between 35 and 40m.
